I recently posted about the benefits of sleep along with some tips for getting into a better routine to live a healthier more energized life. Because of the great response I decided I would give a few extra tips, that I use when I really need a little extra to chill out.
Camomile tea. Have a cup of camomile tea before bedtime. It is a wonderful and natural remedy for sleep disorders such as insomnia.
Lavender. Rub 2-3 drops of lavender oil in your cupped palms, then inhale the scent will go to the amygdala gland in your brain and will help to calm the mind. Rub a drop on your pillow to help throughout the night. Then, rub on the feet, temples, wrists for an immediate calming effect on the body.
Eye mask. It is far easier to sleep in when there is little light and that is exactly what the eye mask is designed to do. Create a state of pure darkness. When the brain senses this darkness it produces melatonin (the chemical of sleep).
Sound machine. I use a app on the phone called "white noise." Living in the city that never sleeps while an amazing place that I call home can often be a noisy one! The sound machine blocks/muddles the sound so you can sleep with out interruption. Ear plugs would likely have the same effect, but I am not a huge fan due to lack of comfort.
