I spent the day with Mark at S10 on Walker street. When you step in you feel like you are entering a beautiful grungy gym. While there is nothing grungy about it in the sense of dirty and grime, it does make you feel like you are about to crush the workout, sweat like hell and breath so heavy you might pass out. And that is exactly what I did.
Mark and I discussed some of my goals, we went through a 12 point body fat composition test and took some before images.
We spent a little bit of time warming up before diving into a grueling workout with multiple super-sets and my first experience with the prowler. I have run stadiums, pulled tires with weights and sprinted through sand pits, but I have to say this was the most intense. There is an actual warning label on the equipment stating:
The work out knocked me out for the rest of the day. I love it when that happens; you know you worked hard!
Lastly, I found their water fountain and filtration system intriguing. If you happen to walk by or work out at S-10 check it out. You will see multiple metal cylinders under the fountain with tubes running from one to the other and little number dials, clearly calculating something. I of course had to drink this special water to see what it was all about. The best way to describe this water is that is tasted pure! To be perfectly honest it had NO taste. So of course I asked some questions and then had to follow up with my own research. Check out my post on water to see what I found.
I was told this is an 11 stage filtration with reverse osmosis and alkaline. This water tastes exceptionally clean!
After asking a ton of questions and following up with my own research, I found that reverse osmosis is a purification process forcing the water through a semi-permeable membrane removing about 99% of the tap water impurities (mineral and other contaminants). The alkaline aspect interested me most. This is what increases the PH in the water and reduces acidity. Apparently, water that is alkaline helps to neutralize acid in the bloodstream, helping to increase oxygen levels and increase energy and metabolism. Seems like a great combination to help with a stronger and more energized workout! I have since looked into purchasing an alkaline filter to add to my own tap. This is the one I bought.(add link )
Thank you S-10 for teaching me something new about water and working me to a breathless sweat ;)
Check this place out if you get a chance.
